The meaning of the name Geisha is "Person who lives of the Art".

The Occident always had a great interest for this personage of the Japanese culture. However, despite attraction the Gueixas has always been badly misinterpreted, giving it a PERVERTED concept.

The profession of Gueixa appeared in century XVIII. They are artists, submitted to rigorous disciplines, and they aren't exotic prostitutes or prostitutes of luxury as they are frequently assumed to. be in the world of the Occidental person. This explains at the same time the preconception and the romantisism that surround them.

Gueixas is the phenomenon next to the feminism that Japanese possess. They are between the few women who obtain financial independence in an extremely patriarchial culture. They are extroverted and sensual, instead of hidden and restrained.

Today, most of its customers are older men, whom they know appreciate the traditional arts of Japan (that they include singing and dances), beyond the teatral game that involves this universe, they sell to their customers the dream of a perfect woman, and with that they make themselves feel attractive and important. But this universe, that still today is surrounded with mystery, can be extinguishing.

It's ironic, but the influence of the Occident is pointed out as one of the causes of the increasing disinterest in the Japanese for its old traditions.

Critiques

:iconvampiressartist:
It's really difficult to see the samurai's face. Like, I'm seeing a mound of what looks like bloody flesh until I realize that's supposed to be his face, but I still can't decipher the details of it.

I put this as a critique because of the critique I just typed. But honestly, I really, really love this piece. The details are absolutely clean, meticulous, and STUNNING. All the effort you put into the armor, the anatomy, the sword, the erotic, sensual atmosphere, it's all just so mind-blowing! I really do like this piece. You did an amazing job with it.

Holy schnookies, that is one lovely picture. You took your usual detail-intensive style and turned it up 10 about 10 but it pays of spectacularly. :) Both the detail and the colouring gives it the feel of a woodcut. I'm blown away by the attention to detail in the pattern on the clothing and the fine detail in their hair. I hope the person you're paying tribute to likes it! :) Well done!

This is awesome. I love the flowing, fluid lines and the soft female figure in contrast to the gruff samurai character.
