Artist's Comments

Hi guys. I never thought this artwork could cause so much commotion over such a silly matter. Here is the thing: There was a misunderstanding where I’ve been thought of as being a rude person because I was aggressive back in response to some jeering comments I’ve been receiving for not having made this character's hands look delicate, can you believe that?

I understand it's just a personal opinion you’re giving, not necessarily the truth, and you’re entitled to that. I take the good with the bad.

By nature I'm not an arrogant or cocky person and I really disdain that kind of people. I like to read and appreciate people’s commentaries and if you check my gallery you’ll see I try to reply everybody as good as I can. I also get really sad when artists I admire do not reply me properly, but now I can relate to that.

Not every women needs to be stereotypical, and to me it actually adds more to story. People should be more inquisitive instead of reactionary. Treat it like art.

However, this artwork is not perfect. But I can tell you I also DO easily see errors and particular characteristics that do not look good in 90% of top artist's works, but I never dissed their works because of that. Why? Because you have to be open enough to new styles that don't necessarily follow the same artistic movements you follow. And artistic license forgives much, doesn't it?

People have been inspiring me with positive words, and critique implies pointing out the negative aspects. If you think you have knowledge enough to do, PLEASE, do it.

But make a serious examination and judgment of it. Say something good to me and when I say something good I don’t mean an admiring comment. If you’re coming for jeering speech, I will not take it. So, after remove those stupid commentaries, I've opened this option "Request Critiques" to some fellows make a real critique. Enjoy it.

I'm pretty good at knowing what stinks in my work. And I will dare to fail more.

Critiques

:iconsonofdavinci:
I am not so good with critiques...I wish I could sketch an overlay so you could see what I am talking about, but I will try my best! I do agree that the hand looks accurate, but it doesn't look beautiful. In comics, its less about realism, and more about idealism. All aspects of the figures should be idealized, and that includes hands. Unless the character is supposed to be ugly or something, then everything about them should look very idealized. The other problem I have with this piece is the arm position, and shoulder. Her left shoulder looks too small compared to her right. However, if you wanted it to be moved forward, you should see the outline of her shoulder muscle more (on the inside, not the outside). The other thing I would say is that her arm position is uninteresting. I think the silhouette of the figure is the most important thing when it comes to poses, and right now it is one big shape with not much of visual interest. If you put her left arm extended to the side with her hand resting on the ground (outside of the current area of her body), it would be much better I think. Maybe have her arm reaching up and her forearm resting on her head? I'm really sorry for my bad descriptions...This would be so much easier if I could just draw what I am talking about.

Even with those criticisms this is not a bad piece. I have to mention I absolutely LOVE the way you draw hair. Its not overly detailed, but if flows and has a very realistic yet stylized quality. The face and the folds in the blanket look really good too. Hope this was somewhat helpful!

Hey Ed!
I'll say this is an absolutely BEAUTIFUL piece. You did a fantastic job. My favorite is the detail in the hair. The strokes are painterly (please paint this). The hair, lovely organic tattoo and folds in the drapery all compliment each other. All I can suggest is if you were ever revisiting this piece would be to give her more exaggerated body position, even if it was not overly anatomically accurate. Maybe more curve to her body, and seated at a more dynamic angle. I am super cartoony so that is expected coming from me.
Great job buddy!

Ah! Amazing as always, I like your style of drawing faces - so natural and beautiful! Great work on tattoo also - I thing it's hard to draw floral ornaments. And it would be great if you do a noir-style book!
